《冲浪男人》根据真实故事改编，讲述了英年早逝的著名冲浪运动员杰伊・莫里瑞蒂的生平事迹。

杰伊的父亲也是一个冲浪运动员，在杰伊9岁的时候，就带着他一起下海冲浪。杰伊很快就掌握了冲浪的技巧，并从此爱上了冲浪运。在杰伊（约翰尼・韦斯顿 Jonny Weston 饰）15岁时，他在半月湾海岸发现了传说中世界上最大海浪之一的Mavericks。为了征服Mavericks这个巨浪，杰伊恳请冲浪教练弗罗斯提・海森（杰拉德・巴特勒 Gerard Butler 饰）指导自己的技能。在学习指导的探索中，二人逐渐产生亦师亦友的亲情，这也影响着各自的生活态度。在杰伊16岁时，他成功征服了Mavericks海浪，精彩的表演被摄影师捕捉下来，成为了冲浪界的新星和全世界冲浪爱好者所爱戴的偶像。
